Well, let’s start with the basics. Like, the super basics. AC stands for air conditioning. Hopefully, you knew that already.
With that out of the way, let’s get to the evaporator core, which is a really big part of your air conditioning system. How important is the AC evaporator core? Well, it’s the part of the air conditioning system that’s responsible for, you know, making the air cold. Or at least one of them. That seems like it might be an important thing, yeah?
So, how’s it work? Well, I won’t bother you with all the ins and outs, because, frankly, I don’t think you really care that much. But we’ll cover the basics. Liquid refrigerant is metered into the evaporator core by an expansion valve or orifice tube. Inside the evaporator, the refrigerant is transformed into a gas (hence the name evaporator). At the same time, the blower motor is pushing warm air across the evaporator. And because the evaporator is a heat exchanger, it absorbs the heat, keeping you cool.
And that’s how you keep from leaving sweat marks all over your nice car seats.
Evaporators are extremely durable, and you usually won’t ever have to replace yours. But, hey, you just never know what could go wrong.
