What is a fuel evaporative canister?
Look, I know, it’s a mouthful. Don’t blame the messenger.
The fuel evaporative canister is one of the key elements of your car’s emissions control system. The emissions control system keeps your car from releasing excess harmful emissions into the atmosphere, which is both environmentally unfriendly, and illegal.
Also known as the charcoal canister, the fuel evaporative canister traps fuel vapors that escape the fuel tank. Those vapors that would otherwise be released, but the fuel evaporative canister allows the car to utilize them instead.
After the vapors have been trapped in the fuel evaporative canister, the engine pulls the vapors out via vacuum suction, and burns the vapors.
The fuel evaporative canister should last the life of your vehicle. But that doesn’t always happen and sometimes it needs to be replaced.
